Women's Wellness Workshop 1: Nourishing Meals

  • 901 North Marsh Road Brodhead, WI, 53520 United States (map)

Since the very beginning of our farm, Kyle and I have always believed in prioritizing our health and wellness alongside growing our business. It hasn’t always been easy and we certainly haven’t always succeeded, but we keep trying to discover new and nourishing ways to care for ourselves. Luckily, we have found dozens of incredible mentors along the way: teachers who have helped us to heal, reflect, nourish ourselves and just generally learn how to live well. We are thrilled to bring many of these beautiful teachers together for you all at our farm this fall.

Our Women’s Wellness series is a trio of workshops held from 1-4:30 p.m. every-other Saturday beginning September 21st. Each with its own unique focus (nourishing meals, introduction to herbalism, and digestive bitters), each session will include a short workshop, a yoga class, time to reflect and set intentions, and beautiful views of our fields. Some workshops will also send you home with goodies to use on your own wellness journey at home.

Our Women’s Wellness event series is your opportunity to learn how to care for yourself. It’s your moment to step away and just savor this life. It’s your moment of stillness.

WORKSHOP FLOW:

1 p.m. Intro & Welcome

1:15 p.m. Yoga with Peggy Frain of True Nature Yoga

Peggy Frain will guide you through mindful breath work a full-spectrum yoga practice designed to rejuvenate a connection with your sense of self-appreciation and wellness. She has taught alignment-focused, heart-centered yoga for over 9 years and has been practicing for close to 17. Peggy opened True Nature Yoga Studio in Evansville’s historic downtown in 2012, later converting it to Evansville Mindfulness Coop. Though the space has changed hands, she teaches classes there on Wednesday evenings. Peggy also teaches yoga to female inmates at Dane County Jail and started the Yoga & Mindfulness program at Rock County Juvenile Detention Center, a program still in use today.

2 p.m. Raleigh’s Hillside Farm tour & harvest

2:30 p.m. Nourishing meals class with Kristen Martinek of Enjoy This Organic Life

During Kristen’s workshop, attendees will learn what it entails to nourish ourselves intuitively and shift our diets according to the seasons and our cycles. Kristen will go through each phase of our cycles and discuss how it alters hormones; subsequently changing our energy levels & dietary requirements. Attendees will learn ways to connect with and listen to their body and how to holistically support their individual needs through their dietary and movement choices.

Kristen Martinek is deeply passionate about holistic wellness, living simply, mindfully and sustainably, and stewarding the Earth and her relationships with gentle consciousness. After studying nutrition in her undergraduate, Kristen felt there to be a strong disconnect between how government funded nutrition was being taught & implemented, to how she intuitively viewed heath. It was from this disconnect that led her on a journey of exploring health from the ground up, starting on an organic farm in Hawaii. It was there Kristen began to connect with Health on an intuitive, holistic and inclusive level. The seed had been planted here, however, her journey was not linear. After exploring so many different self-imposed dietary approaches, from vegetarian, to vegan, to raw vegan... Kristen came to realize years later nutrition is not about just the foods we consume (and don’t). True health comes from embodying the notion that one diet does not fit all, that one diet does not fit one person necessarily from season to season and as women, our food choices vary throughout the month according to our cycles. When we let go of labels, of the “shoulds” and reconnect with what our bodies are truly asking for, we step into one of the most sacred parts of nourishing our Womanhood. Kristen worked for Raleigh’s Hillside Farm in 2018.
